"The very grave and objectively immoral actions of [Fr. Marcial Maciel] have left deep wounds"

Many blogs and commentators refer to the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi. Any item posted on official Legion or Regnum websites become fair game for comment. More often than not comments gravitate  towards news that can be construed negatively. This morning I noticed the following reminder on the site - I was pleasantly surprised and, precisely because it will probably not get much attention, I thought I'd reproduce it here.

April 1, 2011. In June 2010, the following invitation was made to all Regnum Christi members:

“Throughout the entire upcoming year, from this year’s solemnity of the Sacred Heart until the same feast next year, we invite all Regnum Christi members to join the Legionaries and consecrated members in offering First Friday Mass, Eucharistic adoration, and personal sacrifices in a spirit of atonement and penance.”

This invitation also mentioned that the guiding motive was to make reparation for the founder’s sins and the resulting scandal, and to seek light and certainty in Christ:

"This is a unique stage in the history of the Legion and the Regnum Christi Movement. The very grave and objectively immoral actions of our founder have left deep wounds. They have caused a grave scandal, both inside and outside of our spiritual family. We have all felt its effects, and perhaps our certainties and hopes have undergone some doubts and questions. In times like these, there is only one person to whom we can turn: Christ, the only one who makes all things new."

With this brief reminder, we would like to encourage Regnum Christi members and friends to continue praying for the Holy Spirit’s work within the Legion of Christ and Regnum Christi, especially as the Outreach Commission begins its difficult task.
